Internationally recognised, THE OYSTER INN is carving up the Waiheke social scene. This beautiful cutlery is a pleasure to handle, and is just one of the many charming touches that I noticed and love.

Still on the subject of good dudes, there are lots of them at THE OYSTER INN - one of the finer establishments in the heart of Oneroa, Waiheke Island. It's a gorgeous spot run by warm and friendly staff, and has an energy that naturally encourages you to linger - airy and stylishly casual, with an elevated beach view across the village. Currently on Sunday afternoons near the bar and wood-burning stove you might find DJs and artists like Peter Urlich from the iconic NZ band Th' Dudes, or Nathan Haines. A good catch even if you're not wanting to dine.

So far I've experienced great coffee on the veranda, a delicious main course in the restaurant area, and become quite heady with some really good wine from actor Sam Neill's Two Paddocks range in front of the burning logs with my boots on, but there's so much more on offer here. Lush trailing plants create a welcoming vibe to the entrance and its connection to The Pearl Room - a private room where provocative artwork of Tracey Emin is displayed.

This door is fun. Venture beyond the porthole and you'll find the restrooms, where the thrones too, are fit for kings and queens.
