su reaL TO THE RESCUE

 su reaL TO THE RESCUE

With my fair share of scavenge and English drips of blood, I patriotically saved this old flag cushion cover in a roadside sale at Waiheke last week. The vinyl chair was also a roadside find, but from a narrow, grungy, inner-city street in Sydney, and has lived at several addresses since with various identities. It's now in the lower deck at the bach, and just may receive another operation as one arm has recently fallen off.

Back to the current rescue, I like the way the cushion is perfectly faded, the seams don't match, and it has a real hand crafted look despite there being a commercial UK label hiding inside. It has lived and has character. Thankfully it didn't fall apart when I washed it, so I breathed new life into it, running around the seams on my trusty machine to patch up a few rips. It's still a bit rough, but maybe even the Queen would turn a blind eye and be proud.
